  SAUVIGNON BLANC

“Moutere is a proven producer of serious Sauvignon Blanc. Himmelsfeld and Neudorf have clearly demonstrated the Moutere’s ability to make top Sauvignon Blanc in a style that expresses the strength and individuality of the region”.
Bob Campbell MW May 05 Air New Zealand ‘Where the Heart is’

Himmelsfeld Moutere Sauvignon Blanc 2005

"Aromatic, with herb and lemongrass aromas. Gentle soft-textured with good balance and crisp acidity. Quite Sancerre-like. An individual and attractive style."
Bob Campbell MW

Himmelsfeld Moutere Sauvignon Blanc 2006

From the old world comes the typical gooseberry overtones and from the new world, a gentle scent of tropical fruit. The clay soil gives the mineral tones.  On the palate the fresh, crisp and flinty characteristics of this Sauvignon Blanc are complemented by the firm and long lingering finish.

Himmelsfeld Moutere Sauvignon Blanc 2007

The first smell was mango, passion fruit turned into citrus tones and elderflower with a medium body.  The lively yet still nervous acid is just a matter of time of seeing the integration of the wine and to support more the reflection of the early weather conditions.  The wine is one of them to keep in the cellar, locked away!!!

 Himmelsfeld Moutere Sauvignon Blanc 2008

Still unfolding, the 2008  is weighty, with vibrant flavours,  good vigour.  Firm acidity leaves a  crisp bone-dry finish.  Assertive wine with character and some good bready lees influence.

Chardonnay

“Moutere is Nelson’s wine heartland with the Upper Moutere as its epicentre. To the casual observer it seems logical that the folding hills of Upper Moutere would produce better wine than the flat and more easily cultivated Waimea plains.  Why else would anyone go to the effort and expense of establishing a hillside vineyard if it wasn’t going to produce a classier drop?” Prepare to be surprised when you taste the wines on offer. My own favourites include full-flavoured chardonnays that often possess the mineral characters and vibrant acidity found in the better wines of Chablis. The best mature well, developing appealing, nutty, mealy character with bottle age”
Bob Campbell MW in his article “Where the heart is” Air New Zealand magazine May 2006

Himmelsfeld Moutere Chardonnay 2001

“Concentrated and vibrant wine with tangy acidity. Still youthful with fresh citrus fruits together with an attactive nutty, mealy character”
Bob Campbell MW Nov 05

Himmelsfeld Moutere Chardonnay 2002

At the beginning a ripe nose with a modest nutty secondary flavour.  On the palate the first impression is ripe fruit with a voluminous body and the aftertaste gives the wine again some juicy appearance with  the acid level fine involved in that scenario.

Himmelsfeld Moutere Noble Chardonnay 2003

Nice intense golden colour with a slowly opening nose of stone fruits like peaches, apricot and touches of honey.  A full and rich fermented essence luscious, concentrated and complex with a backbone of natural acid to keep the wine balanced and gives it a huge cellaring potential.

Himmelsfeld Moutere Chardonnay 2004

The  rich golden 2004 is stunning,  with its creamy, caramel flavour, the oak not overpowering the wine but giving a lovely lightly nutty flavour.  Like a good white Burgundy it is smooth and silky in texture.

Himmelsfeld Moutere Chardonnay 2005

Still youthful in colour.  The bouquet is fragrant and creamy, the palate is mouthfilling, rich and smooth, with concentrated, peachy, slightly toasty flavours and a tight, dry finish. It is a powerful, generous wine with loads of personality.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Himmelsfeld Moutere Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

The red fruits in the nose such as red berries, dark cherries and black currant are integrated with cedarwood, toffee and cinnamon flavours.  The palate has a firm structure with prominent tannins typical of this variety.  If we give this wine another three to four years we will experience the hard work done in the vineyard through this wine.

“Perhaps the best Cabernet Sauvignon to have ever come from the region”
Michael Cooper Wine buyers Guide

Himmelsfeld Moutere Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

An abundance of wood spices, prune, cherry flavours and black currant and full mouth feel with a good tannic structure.  The after-taste shows mixed spices such as cloves and origanum.

Himmelsfeld Moutere Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

A well structured, rich-flavoured wine, with lush, ripe blackcurrant, cedar wood and oak aromas, supported with fine tannins, giving excellent mouth feel, especially in conjunction with richly flavoured meat or venison.
